Headteacher Update

An update from Mr Seviour.

Welcome Back!

It is a pleasure to welcome you back to school, and 'Welcome!' of course, to those of you joining the Blackbrook School family. The children have settled really well into their new classes.

The start of a new school year is a great opportunity to get back into a routine and excite children about learning. For those who may have read less during the summer, this is the time to pick up the books and get reading! Regular reading of a variety of texts allows pupils to learn new vocabulary. As adults, we are keen to model to children that reading is an enjoyable activity and can take them into new worlds and experiences beyond their own. Do speak with your child's class teacher if you would like support with engaging your child in reading at home - it really does make a difference!

Learning this Term

Each class has shared their curriculum plans earlier this week. Do take a look at the News and Updates page if you missed these. At the end of the half-term, each class will share some of their key learning on the website.

Celebration

Whole-school

We were excited to introduce our new approach to the Friday celebration assembly this week. Each Friday, one pupil will be identified by each member of staff for 'living out' our school values. The children's names are read out in the assembly and each child is presented with a special card of recognition. Do look out for these!

We love celebrating the successes of our pupils both in and out of school, and we know that many of them take part in a wide range of activities beyond the classroom. If your child has recently achieved something special—whether it’s a music grade, a dance or drama exam, a sporting accomplishment, or any other personal milestone—we would be delighted to hear about it. Please feel free to share these achievements with us so we can recognise and celebrate them as part of our celebration assemblies or within classes. Parents can do this by going to Parents / Online Forms / Something to Celebrate. We would love to share photographs, certificates and experiences to inspire our pupils.

Pupil Details

Please take this opportunity, at the start of the year, to check that the details we hold on record for your child are up-to-date. This includes contact information, medical and dietary information. You can do this by logging onto the Arbor app and requesting a change to specific records. Just pop into the office if you need any help with this.

Friends of Blackbrook School

As most of you will be aware, Claire Anderson is stepping down as chair of the Friends, our school charity. We are in need of someone to lead the crucial work of this group. If you are interested, please do let us know. There will be an AGM soon (Date to be confirmed), and all parents are welcome, and encouraged, to attend. The funds raised by the PTA have been fundamental to key investments and experiences within our school.
